TAZELAAR STEVENSON IN ARTIST PRINT PAREO

Taz wearing artist print pareo

Tazelaar Stevenson was born in 1978 and now lives and works in Norwich.  He has been screen-printing since he was 16 and went on to study Printmaking at Norwich School of Art and Design when he was in his early 20′s.  As well as producing his own work he currently prints for uber-cool fashion maverick NOKI (N.H.S. London) and has just produced some t-shirts for Whiteline’s 2010 collection.  His love of nature and the British coast line combined with his understanding of 70′s culture and style made him the perfect choice for our first artist scarf.

T&H:  We love the artist print you created for Tallulah & Hope’s first collection!  Talk us through your ideas and inspiration..
TS:    I love the work of 70′s artists Sol Lewit and Agnes Martin. The lines that create the border of the pareo are part of an ongoing obsession I have with straight lines, grids and points of intersection.  Although it looks very formal it is actually about the rhythm of nature and constructing chaos.  And I love birds! I was so happy to see them as a theme in your print design!  The cloud-like daubs that appear in the middle of the scarf are actually abstracted avocet wings.

T&H: Where is your favourite place to relax?
TS: Burnham Overy Staithe and Gun Hill, North Norfolk coast.  For the light, the air and the birds! (feathered obviously).

T&H: What’s in your packed lunch box?
TS: [snigger] Pear, chicory and sheep cheese salad.  I used to make it at the Real eating Company in Brighton where I worked with the brilliant Cass Titcombe.

T&H: And what are you listening to..
TS: Currently Grievous Angel featuring Rubi Dan or anything Night Slugs, but never while I’m on the beach.  Nothing beats the sound of the waves.

T&H: Thanks again Taz for bringing your unique wit and style to Tallulah & Hope.

ways to wear your Vintage Ascher cotton scarf

These crayola coloured vintage scarves, kindly unearthed by Peter Ascher from his warehouse in NY are very quickly becoming indispensible fashion friends.  Screen-printed by hand in London in the 70′s, the simplicity of the print and bold colour statements made them an incredible addition to any outfit.  Never pulling focus – just complimenting beautiully.  They work seamlessly with our whole resortwear collection, injecting colour, texture and vintage charm.
The wearing possibilities are endless…and they make great styling accessories for the men folk too.  Read more about Ascher.

THE SARTORIALIST SUGGESTS A POCKET SQUARE, VINTAGE ASCHER SCARVES

vintage Ascher scarf worn as pocket square

Josh wears vintage Ascher scarf in navy dogtooth as a pocket square.

The Sartorialist has spoken “I really love the overall feel of this look, but the element that really caught my eye was the idea of a pocket square worn with a tee shirt. On paper I would say it never works, but when you see it done like this it’s quite reasonable.”
T&H say “Josh in vintage Ascher does it better“.

vintage ascher scarf

T&H had lunch with the wonderful Angela Harnett at the Coach & Horses in Clerkenwell where chef Henry Herbert cooks. T&H were particularly impressed with Henry’s charcuterie board (British hams smoked by Henry’s own fair hands) and his heavenly tasting bread (he comes from a long line of bakers).  T&H will be back! We couldnt resist a quick pic of the handsome Henry in a vintage Ascher scarf.
